Our research does not stay on the shelf. At the UF Pepper Center, we are dedicated to making our science accessible and engaging for everyone. Our research provides fundamental knowledge about the natural aging process and also the real-world impacts on the daily lives of older people.
We invite you to join us in these activities, explore the wonders of science, and become a part of our vibrant scientific community. Together, we can foster a greater appreciation for biological aging, Geriatric and Gerontological science, and its potential to ensure long-life of physical and cognitive independence.
Community
Researchers investigate
Investigators of the UF Pepper Center believe in the power of science to inspire, educate, and transform older adults and their communities. We engage with communities in a variety of ways designed to bring science closer to the public and students. Here we summarize some of our most impactful community engagement activities.
Pepper Registry and Research Newsletters
Older adults have been joining the Pepper Registry since July 2007. There are now nearly 3,500 older adults in the registry. The registry is designed to inform the community about research happening at the UF Pepper Center. Community members on the registry receive direct mail and email newsletters about research happenings and opportunities to volunteer.

Pepper Research Seminars
We host a series of public lectures and seminars where our leading scientists and guest speakers share their latest research findings and insights. These seminars can be attended in person or virtually. These events are open to everyone and cover a wide range of topics, from groundbreaking discoveries to pressing global challenges. Join us to learn, ask questions, and engage in stimulating discussions. View our calendar for speaker schedules and locations.
Community Health Fairs and Exhibitions
We participate in a variety of local community health fairs and exhibitions. At these events we provide general health screening and tests of physical function. A report is provided to each person to share with their caregivers or doctors. We also use this opportunity to deliver information about our research findings and advertise current volunteer opportunities.
Community Advisory Board
Our Community Advisory Board helps our investigators connect to local groups, businesses, and public services geared toward older adults (such as Elder Options). They also provide feedback on scientific directions of the UF Pepper Center and research from our early-stage investigators. The Board meets and participates in stakeholder engagement activities periodically throughout the year.
Collaborations with Community Organizations
We actively collaborate with community organizations, including libraries, museums, and cultural centers, to bring science-themed events about aging, geriatrics, and gerontology to a broad audience. We actively contribute to the Senior Recreational Center and participate in the Community Coalition for Older Adults operated by ElderCare of Alachua County.
Online Engagement and Social Media
View our online calendar to learn more about happenings at the UF Pepper Center. Our online platforms and social media channels are vibrant spaces for spreading our scientific findings to the public. We post updates about our research, share educational content and advertise new community events. Follow us online to stay connected and join the conversation about the science on aging.
